A little while ago, a very thrifty friend of mine spotted two Ercol sofas for sale in a charity shop. Knowing me as well as she does, she very kindly sent me a picture of them. A few quick texts later and I was their proud owner.
We decided to sell one on Ebay in its original condition, whilst the other was sent to a local upholsterer. We chose a soft grey wool for the fabric, whilst I decided to keep the cushion shapes as simple as possible. I absolutely love the curves of the Ercol design, and losing the fussy arm cushions really allows the wooden frame to be the star of the show.
Here’s how it originally looked:
And here it is now:
Adorned with a beautiful crocheted cushion made by my extremely gifted friend Mrs P (mentioned in a previous blog – she truly is the queen of crafts), I’m so pleased to have given this piece of furniture a new lease of life.
And yes, it’s extremely comfy, as well as gorgeous to look at. You can’t beat a classic design – even if you just need to update it a little.
